Bright cotton cushions and throws contrast with the dark wood interior and Dutch style antiques. Natural air-flow keeps the villa cool and the mosquitoes at bay and you can retreat to one of the open verandahs or loggias for some solitude. The 12m swimming pool has sun loungers and steps down to sandy Thalpe beach, where you can paddle, or walk about a kilometre further along the beach to find calmer waves for swimming.
Victoria has three double bedrooms and one twin which will accommodate 7-8 adults and 2-3 children comfortably. The rooms have similar décor and form a horseshoe-shape around the garden. Each room has reproduction four-poster beds, all draped with soft, white mosquito nets. High ceilings encourage natural air movement, but ceiling fans can also be used. There are colonial-style wardrobes and writing desks; which also serve as stylish dressing tables. The master bedroom overlooks the sea and has an en-suite dressing room and bathroom. The three double bedrooms share two bathrooms. The shower rooms have mirrors and the twin room has an outdoor bathroom area for star-gazing / midnight bathing! A small selection of toiletries and fresh linen/towels are restocked every day. Each room has a private garden courtyard or access to the landscaped gardens.
Eat as a group in the central dining room or out in the seaside pavilion. Your private chef, Anil, will happily prepare Indian, Malay or Thai dishes on top of the traditional Sri Lankan cuisine. Menus and personal favourites are discussed on a daily basis. He can prepare snacks like spicy pumpkin soup, squid and lime salads and Thai fishcakes, or you may wish to sample a Sri Lankan breakfast of egg hoppers and sambol or South Indian idles with sambar gravy and coconut chutney. Continental breakfast comprises fruit platters, eggs, cereals and toast and oodles of home made jam. Treats such as apple cake, lemon cheesecake or Indian kulfi will satisfy the sweetest tooth. There is also a wide selection of wines from all corners of the world.
