The Sri Lankan embassy in Tokyo Japan recently held a high profile seminar on Sri Lanka in order to educate some of Japan’s most influential business, erectile
government and industrial leaders on the investment potential for foreign investors in Sri Lanka. This comes as a result of the Sri Lankan government’s aggressive campaign to boost Sri Lanka’s tourism industry and investor profile. The event titled “Sri Lanka Promotional Seminar” was held at the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo with the participation of high level delegates from Sri Lanka and Japan as well as business and corporate leaders from various Japanese Industries.
The Guest of Honor Mr. Nishantha Wickramasingha, chairman of Sri Lankan Airlines mentioned that Sri Lanka is well poised and positioned to take on the role of an economic nerve center and tourist hub for the Asia and South Asia region. Mr. Wickramasinghe further went on to say that in today’s day and age connectivity between countries is of great importance. He said that integration between countries and cities is vital in order to promote and complement commercial trading as well as tourism. Speaking further on the topic the chairman of Sri Lankan Airlines cited that several tourism magazines and travel journals have chosen Sri Lanka as one of the most sought after and most visited tourist hot spots in the world.
In other segments of the seminar comprehensive and informative presentations were made regarding Sri Lankan exports to Japan and as well as an economic perspective of Sri Lanka from a leading Japanese Businessman based in Sri Lanka. Mr. T. Igarashi, chairman of New World Securities who has been in Sri Lanka for decades, commented on the vast number of commercial and investment opportunities in Sri Lanka. Mr. Igarashi went on to highlight the increasing number of opportunities in the Sri Lankan tourism industry thanks to the new hotel and infrastructure development projects carried by the Sri Lankan government with the tourism industry in mind.
The day following the seminar the Japan Association of Travel Agents commonly known as JATA, held their annual travel show in Tokyo. The JATA is considered as the largest association of travel agents in japan. Around twelve different companies from Sri Lanka participated in this year’s JATA travel show. The Sri Lankan tourist board together with the Sri Lankan embassy is working towards promoting tourism from Japan to Sri Lanka.
